This American website is the official website for the Flat Stanley Project. It includes links to apps, photos, and teaching resources, as well as everything to do with the Flat Stanley Project. This project was lauched to celebrate Stanley's 50th year of publication and is described as follows on the website:
"The basic principle of The Flat Stanley Project is to connect your child, student or classroom with other children or classrooms participating in the Project by sending out "flat" visitors, created by the children, through the mail (or digitally, with The Flat Stanley app). Kids then talk about, track, and write about their flat character's journey and adventures. Although similar to a pen-pal activity, Flat Stanley is actually much more enriching-students don't have to wonder where to begin or what to write about. The sender and the recipient already have a mutual friend, Flat Stanley. Writing and learning becomes easier, flows naturally, and tends to be more creative. This is what teachers call an "authentic" literacy project, in that kids are inspired to write of their own passion and excitement about the project, and given the freedom to write about many things through the rubric of the Flat Stanley character."

Suggestions for use: Taking part in the Flat Stanley Project after reading the book would be a great way to further extend the children's engagement with the novel. By teaming up with another school, a cross-curricular intergrated programme of work could take place: e.g. writing letters to their penpals, learning about where their penpals live, using ICT to FaceTime or Skype their penpals etc... Many other teaching ideas are listed on the Teaching Resources section of this website too, including history, art and maths suggestions.

Suggestions for use: The three Flat Stanley books which are covered on this site are produced as 'I Can Read' Level 2 books. These books are descibed by the publishers as being for readers who are increasingly confident but still need some help and include: engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers who still need some help. These teacher guides could be used to support a small group literacy session for more competent readers or for whole class teaching. Opportunites for group and project work are provided through the extension activities.

Suggestions for use: Many of the worksheets and resources on this site could be used to reinforce teaching and learning.
They would be particularly useful during a power-hour or literacy lift-off programme as there are different levels available allowing for good differentiation in the classroom.

Suggestions for use: This sample answer can be used as an exemplar for students to create their own answers about 'The King's Speech' or any other comparative text. It emphasises the use of suitable adjectives and key moments to back up assertions. It's simple layout and structure can be applied to a variety of texts.
