Strand: Plays
Strand unit: Macbeth
Suggestions for use: An excellent in class substitute for attending a performance of the play as well as providing an opportunity for comparison for those lucky enough to have already attended a live performance. With elizabethan style costume and staging the emphasis is on the actors and script rather than effects and staging. An alternative to a film based study of the text.

Strand unit: Macbeth
Suggestions for use: This resource comprises an extensive PowerPoint presentation and accompanying teachers' notes, and features five activities themed around the film, each easily completed in 45 minutes to an hour. These sessions will direct young people to analyse clips from the film (embedded within the resource), and explore the characters, themes and relationships within the story, as well as the sound, language and filmmaking techniques used to convey them. Students will be encouraged to respond to the text both critically and imaginatively, exploring Shakespeare's different methods of expressing meaning and achieving effects, as well as considering the social, cultural and historical contexts of Macbeth.

This is a database I put together a few years ago focusing on some of Rich's poems on the LC. Rummage around in it and dig out what you like.
Download and open the database; use the filters at the top of the spreadsheet to select what you wish to view. Begin with themes and look at language and imagery after that.
Will work in Google docs, Excel or Open Office.

Suggestions for use: When you open the database, be sure to use the filters at the top to find your way around. For example, you could choose to navigate poem by poem, or topic by topic. I have commented on various aspects of Rich's poetry here, and included some extracts from research, but these are by no means exhaustive. You can add your own ideas and index them in the filters' section.
