At first an introductary video can be played on the IWB of ordinary people casually interviewed about where and how often they need to scan for information in everyday contexts, e.g., the supermarket, classified ads, reading the noticeboard in the doctor's surgery etc. They break down the skill into reading headings, opening sentence in each paragraph etc. The video leads on to an interactive task perfect for the IWB, whereby children are presented with an excerpt from a list of classifieds to retrieve a particular number which they then need to 'dial' (using a pen on the IWB) into an on-screen mobile phone and call. It is highly visual and contextual.
