Welcome Back to School
Fellow English Teachers on behalf of the INOTE Executive I would like to sincerely welcome you all back to school. The coming year will no doubt provide us with the usual highs and lows but rest assured we in INOTE are doing our best to assist in every way we can.
This year is exciting in many ways, we kick off with Conference on the 3rd of October and would like to see you all there. Places are limited so remember to book a place through Kilkenny Education Centre as soon as possible. Interest is high, due in no small way to the wonderful speakers we’ve managed to book, including Roddy Doyle, Donal Ryan and our very own Frances Rocks. On the day we hope to officially launch the INOTE website and Eoghan Evesson will be on hand to run us through the site. The site will soon replace our Facebook page and we would encourage you all to share resources and comments through the new site which will no doubt be a valuable asset in time for all of us.
We are of course very aware that many of you are frustrated regarding the Junior Cycle and in particular planning and preparation for 2nd year. We as an organisation have listened carefully to members requests and queries. As a result we have liaised on your behalf with the unions, the Department, the NCCA, JCT. and any relevant body we thought could assist. As I type we are still bound by Union Directives, however the ballot is upon us and by Conference we should at least know definitively what is happening?!
As cliched as it sounds I think English Teachers have shown tremendous resilience and dedication to their students this year in particular. We alone forged ahead while our colleagues basked in apathy we toiled in isolation. We exhibited and embodied the INOTE mantra of ” teachers for teachers”, we stayed on top of developments and helped each other out, the isolation we felt as a group has resulted in the development of a camaraderie among colleagues, the unification of a powerful force!
Unfortunately we will only get to see 200 of you at Conference, those who miss out on the day can find notes, forums and chat on www.inote.ie. Keep an eye there too for information regarding talks in your local area. We would like to thank everyone involved in INOTE for assisting throughout the year and wish you all an inspiring, exciting and healthy academic year.
